Surfing Techniques:
Paddling Efficiently: Use a smooth, steady stroke to paddle out. Keep your body centered on the board to maintain balance, and use your whole arm to pull water, engaging your back muscles for strength.
Duck Diving (for Shortboards) or Turtle Rolling (for Longboards):
Duck Dive: For shortboards, push the nose of the board down as you approach a wave, then press down on the tail with your foot to sink the board under the wave.
Turtle Roll: For longboards, flip onto your back and hold onto the rails, allowing the wave to pass over you while protecting the board from the wave’s force.
Positioning and Timing: Practice reading waves and positioning yourself correctly. When you spot a wave, start paddling early, aiming to match its speed. Position yourself so the wave lifts you gently before you pop up.
Pop-Up Technique: Once you’re ready to catch the wave, perform a quick pop-up. Place your hands by your chest, push up, and bring your feet underneath you in a single, swift motion. Keep your knees bent for balance and stability.
Stance and Balance: Place your front foot around the middle of the board and your back foot closer to the tail. Keep a low stance with bent knees, distributing your weight evenly to stay stable.
Turning (Carving):
Shift your weight onto your back foot to lift the nose slightly and turn the board.
Lean into the turn, using your shoulders to guide the direction, and keep your eyes looking where you want to go.
Riding the Face: Stay near the unbroken part of the wave (the “pocket”) to maintain speed. Adjust your body weight to stay in control and continue maneuvering based on the wave’s movement.
Exiting the Wave: When you finish a ride, either kick out over the back of the wave or gently ride to the shore. Avoid jumping off too early to reduce the risk of injury.
Additional Tips:
Practice Balance and Flexibility: Surfing requires both; practicing yoga or balance exercises can improve your stability.
Stay Aware of Surf Etiquette: Follow local surfing rules, avoid dropping in on
